Beyond Skin. Before 2001, being both stylish and cruelty-free was pretty tricky. Until, of course, fashion leaders (and makers of the most dreamy vegan shoes ever!) Beyond Skin was launched. Starting in a small factory on London's Holloway Road, Beyond Skin set the ethical fashion scene on fire in 2003 when it began trading a small collection of handmade-to-order veggie shoes and boots in two simple colourways over six styles.
After finding a more permanent production home in East London, fashionistas really started hearing about this trendy little company when Natalie Portman wore Beyond Skin shoes at The Golden Globes, the Oscars and even in her movie V for Vendetta. The actor is still a great ambassador for the boutique company and gets the brand noticed by all the leading fashion magazines.
The next years were gilded with awards from Drapers, Grazia, the RSPCA and of course, the Veggie Awards. And today, all the shoes are made in Alicante in Spain whilst the rest of the company is based in bright and bustling Brighton. Plus Beyond Skin has stayed true to its original philosophy of being kind to our fellow humans, animals and wherever possible, our precious planet.
